PURPOSE: An organic electroluminescent(EL) device is provided to improve hole injection efficiency and light emitting efficiency at a lower operation voltage. CONSTITUTION: An organic EL device of the invention comprises a substrate(1), a hole injecting electrode(2), a hole injection conveying layer(4), more than one organic layers(5) interleaved between the electrodes of which at least one layer has a light emitting function, an inorganic hole injecting layer of high resistance(6) interleaved between the light emitting layer and the electron injecting electrode and an electron injecting electrode(3), stacked in reverse sequence. The inorganic electron injecting layer of high resistance contains more than one kinds of oxide having a work function below 4eV selected from alkaline metal, alkaline earths metal, and lanthanide as a first component and more than one kinds of metal having a work function of 3 to 5eV. The inorganic electron injecting layer performs blocking holes and has a continuity path for returning electrons.
