PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit quality deterioration by reducing the generation of polymer scales, and to enable a long-term continuous operation with a high productivity. SOLUTION: In a continuous preparation of a copolymer, 100 pts.wt. monomer mixture comprising 50 to 80 wt.% aromatic vinyl, 50 to 20 wt.% vinyl cyanide and 0 to 30 wt.% other copolymerizable vinyl, 10 to 50 pts.wt. solvent, 0 to 1 pt.wt. polymerization initiator and 0 to 1 pts.wt. molecular weight regulator are continuously supplied to a fully mixing tank type polymerization reactor (I) or a polymerization apparatus wherein (I) and one or more other polymerization reactors are combined, and the polymerization temperature in the polymerization reactor (I) is adjusted to 120 to 170 deg.C. Here, the temperature and the supply of a vapor condensate, which is refluxed from a condenser, is adjusted so that the total concentration of condensate components having boiling points of 120 deg.C or lower at an atmospheric pressure, is 65 wt.% or larger, and the vapor condensate is sprayed to the gas phase part in the polymerization reactor (I). |
