PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent deviation between an existing web and a new web at their butt splicing part when both webs are automatically spliced with each other. SOLUTION: This web splicing device is provided with a web splicing unit 30. The web splicing unit 30 is provided with a cylindrical back-up roll 11 formed with a plurality of suction holes 31a at its circumferential part. An existing web 14 and a new web 22 are sucked up so as to be held over the outer circumference of the rotating back-up roll 31 by way of the suction holes 31a. The existing web 14 and the new web 22 sucked up and held therein so as to be temporarily spliced with each other by means of a double coated tape 18, are cut off by a second cutter 32 while being over-lapped, and thereby a butt splicing part 39 is formed up.
