PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data recording and reproducing device which has various test modes and improved reliability in a small configuration without using any complicated route. SOLUTION: This device has rebuild buffer memories 47 and 48 in a ring buffer structure for temporarily holding inputted data, a route for performing rebuild while using an idle time slot and using data from the rebuild buffer memory 47 or 48 and a route for test mode using the rebuild buffer memory 47 or 48. Further, a switch 41 is provided for selecting any one of these two routes corresponding to the test mode.
