PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data port controlling method, device therefor and a medium for recording a data port control program for surely operating a device at the time of connecting a device such as a printer with a PC by using a data port having plural operation modes. SOLUTION: At the time of recognizing that a conversion cable 16 is connected with a USBI/O, a printer driver generates and outputs print data, and transmits an operation mode changing command for executing transition to an interchangeable mode. Then, the conversion cable 16 receives this command, and transition to the interchangeable mode is executed. Even at the time of turning off only a printer 15 afterwards, and then turning it on again, any in coincidence can not be generated between the operation modes of the conversion cable 16 and the printer 15, and data transfer can be prevented from being interrupted.
