PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a cost and to improve productivity by forming an optical circuit having single or plural optical wave guide layers on both surface/rear surface of a substrate and forming the substrate sufficiently thicker than the optical wave guide layer to be optically independent of each other the optical circuits of both surface/rear surface. SOLUTION: The substrate 12 is formed sufficiently thicker than the thickness of the optical wave guide layer 11. In such a manner, by making the thickness of the substrate 12 sufficiently thicker than the thickness of the optical wave guide layer 11, an upper side (surface) optical circuit 14 and a lower side (rear surface) optical circuit 15 formed on the substrate 12 are operated as the circuits optically independent of each other. Thus, many circuit functions are integrated without being affected by the warp of the substrate 12 itself and the warp due to a manufacturing process, and without reducing gained amounts of optical integrated circuits from a sheet of substrate, and the optical integrated circuit excellent in the cost and the productivity is obtained. |
