A gas stream (2) containing nitrogen oxides is fed via a catalyst body (4) which comprises an active material in the presence of a reducing agent. Said active material comprises a zeolite and titanium dioxide. According to the invention, the zeolite is an acid zeolite with exchanged hydrogen ions. Even at temperatures higher than 450 DEG C, the nitrogen oxides contained in said gas stream are effectively transformed into nitrogen and water. In the examples, the active mass also contains tungsten trioxide.
