摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active matrix type liquid crystal display element of a lateral electric field structure which embodies the uniformity of a cell gap. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display element has common electrodes 2 which are formed on an array substrate 7, a first insulating film 10, pixel electrodes 4 which are formed on the first insulating film 10, dummy electrodes 9 which are arranged below the whole or part of the pixel electrodes 4 and are formed between the array substrate 7 and the first insulating film 10, dummy electrodes 19 which are arranged on the whole or part of the common electrodes 2 and are formed on the first insulating film 10 and storage capacitor parts 5 which are formed on the array substrate 7. The height h2 from above the array substrate 7 to the front surface of the pixel electrodes 4 is substantially equal to the height h1 from above the array substrate 7 to the front surface of the dummy electrodes 19 at the position where dummy electrodes 19 are formed and the height h3 from above the array substrate 7 to the front surface of the storage capacitor parts 5 is also substantially equal to the height h1.</p>
