Regenerated cellulose fibres, capable of assuming a high degree of permanently recoverable crimp upon relaxation in an aqueous liquid, are made by extruding viscose containing 5-10% of cellulose, 5-10% of caustic soda and more than 0.05%, based on the weight of the viscose, of polyethylene glycol having an average molecular weight between 600-6000, at a salt figure of 3-014, into a bath containing 5-14% of sulphuric acid, 0.5-4% of zinc sulphate and more than 12% of sodium sulphate, and stretching the fibres obtained by at least 50%. The fibres may be stretched when immersed in a hot dilute acid bath. Specifications 557,218 and 634,868 and U.S.A. Specification 2,517,694 are referred to.
