PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum degassing apparatus and a method for sealing a joining part thereof, with which the suction of air can be prevented. SOLUTION: O rings 21, 22 are doubly disposed over tube periphery in the joining positions of a flange 6a or the like, and a groove (gas flowing part) 23 is arranged between the O ring 21 at the outer peripheral side and the O ring 22 at the inner peripheral side. Inert gas from an introducing pipe 24 is introduced into the groove 23 and the gas in the groove 23 is discharged from an exhaust pipe 25. In this way, the inert gas is changed in succession to carry out the leak in outer air. Further, since the inert gas having >=10 times of the groove 23 vol., is supplied into the groove 23, the leaked-in air is sufficiently diluted, and even in the case of invading the diluted gas into molten steel, the component of nitrogen, or the like, in the molten steel is scarcely increased.
