PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a suspension system that helps dramatically reduce a space required for mounting in the longitudinal direction of a vehicle and increases the degree of freedom in vehicle design. SOLUTION: This suspension system 1 comprises a single-cylinder direct- acting vibration damper 2, a damper body 3 that is generally L-shaped and fixed to a vehicle body 5, a link member 4 that is generally U-shaped, and a lower arm 9 secured to the link member 4. The vibration damper 2 extends along the axis direction of the lower arm 9 generally concentrically. It reduces by a large margin a space required for mounting the suspension system in the vehicle in the longitudinal direction and eventually increases the degree of freedom in vehicle design.
