PURPOSE: A monitoring device and a method thereof are provided to generate alarm by calculating distance with respect to a front vehicle using size of image and discriminating whether the front vehicle is nearby after sensing image of a forward vehicle using one camera. CONSTITUTION: With power supplied, an image processing unit(20) starts monitoring action of distance with respect to a front vehicle by performing action stored as programmed in an inner memory. Upon action starring, the image processing unit initiates all memory variables and reads a signal input from an action switch(SW) and discriminates that the action switch is on. In case of on of the action switch, the image processing unit reads the signal input from a camera(10) to recognize image by reading the signal input. The image processing unit outputs the image onto a monitor(30) to display a front vehicle on the monitor. And the distance with respect to the front vehicle is calculated by discriminating size of image to determine the vehicle is nearby the front vehicle. Based on size of image, distance of front vehicle is stored in the inner memory of the image processing unit in data. The image processing unit outputs a control signal onto an alarm display unit(40) for generating alarm in case of being near a voltage vehicle.
