PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable resistor which can lead out a resistance value in a prescribed operation pitch. SOLUTION: A variable resistor which can draw a resistance value in a prescribed operational pitch can be realized by arranging a resistance element section 11, in which a plurality of fixed contacts 16 and 17 are alternately arranged on the left and right sides from a prescribed position in the end section of a belt-like resistance layer 13 in the width direction at prescribed intervals and the widths of the fixed contacts 16A, 16B, etc., and 17A, 17B, etc., on parallel lines, which are separated from each other at an interval larger than the width of the resistance layer 13, are set larger than the insulating interval between adjacent two fixed contacts faced to each other on both sides of the resistance layer 13, and a mobile contact body 18 having three elastic contacts of two elastic contacts 18A and 18B, which slide in elastically contacting states on the fixed contacts 16 and 17 arranged in lines along two parallel lines which are arranged at a prescribed interval and one elastic contact 18C which slides in an elastically contacting state on a belt-like current collecting layer 12, which is provided in parallel with the element section 11 with respect to the current- collecting layer 12.
