PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the efficiency of a fuel cell system and operate the cell continuously for a long time without being damaged by continuously calculating the standard deviation of the cell voltage of a cell to be monitored, controlling the load current so that the standard deviation of cell voltage never exceeds a prescribed value and follows the prescribed value. SOLUTION: A cell voltage monitor 2 monitors the cell voltage of a fuel cell stack 1 and outputs a cell voltage signal. A cell voltage standard deviation judgment part 3 continuously calculates the standard deviation of cell voltage from this signal and compares it with a prescribed value. The standard deviation judgment part 3 controls a load 5, an air compressor 6, a fuel supplying device 7, shutoff valves 9a, 9b and control valves 12a, 12b through a control unit 4 according to this comparison result. Namely, in the fuel cell stack 1, according to that the standard deviation is close to or distant from the prescribed value, the current of the load 5 is reduced or increased to supply or interrupt air and fuel gas. Accordingly, the cell voltage follows the prescribed value, and the fuel cell can be efficiently operated without being damaged. |
