PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately perform driving at reversing in the reciprocating direction of a lens in a light beam scanning device used for a measuring device for distance between two cars constituted so that scanning is performed with a light beam by directly reciprocating a collimating lens which are made to face a light emitting source. SOLUTION: This light beam scanning device is provided with a magnetic drive type rocking mechanism rocking the collimating lens 5, arranged ahead of a laser unit 4 right and left and a stopper mechanism consisting of a leaf spring 10 regulating a lens rocking range. Either of stopper pieces 10a and 10b on both sides of the spring 10 abuts on a support frame 7, and its spring force acts on the side of a rotor 92 as a force reversing the motion direction of the lens. Therefore, the drive power to be supplied to the drive coil 95 of the rocking mechanism at reversing of the motion is reduced, and heat generation therefrom is restrained.
