The tool has forming jaws (2) and forming tongues (1). The container edge (21) is fitted into a radial edge in the jaws so that it is almost completely enclosed by the tongues, and folded inwards together with part of the container jacket (23), until the desired container diameter has been achieved. Springs between jaws and tongues prevent the formation of creases in the folded edge. All components are operated by a central cylinder (13).
