PURPOSE: A hydraulic motor vehicle braking system is provided to open and shut a valve as the actuation of a pump, so that a structure is simplified. CONSTITUTION: A hydraulic motor vehicle braking system comprises: a pump to contain an intake connection connected to a pressure medium reservoir (14) and a delivery connection for drawing pressure medium out of the reservoir and conveying it to a connection (21) of a master cylinder (12); a braking circuit of the vehicle braking system (10) to have wheel brake cylinders of associated vehicle wheels and valve arrangements for modulating braking pressure and to be connected to the connection of the master cylinder; a valve device (34) to be between the pressure medium reservoir and a pressure chamber (19) which is connected to the connection of the master cylinder, where the valve device is a pressure valve which can be actuated by the pump pressure during automatic braking and, when the pump pressure is low, throttles the flow through the pressure chamber of the master cylinder towards the reservoir and, when the pump pressure relative thereto is high, restricts this pressure.
