PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for load compliance operation of a home bar of a refrigerator are provided to determine door opening and amount of load applied to a home bar for operating cooling in response to the determination, thereby maintaining the freshness. CONSTITUTION: A method for load compliance operation of a home bar of a refrigerator includes the steps of determining whether a door is opened, operating in a normal mode if opened, while determining whether the door is closed after storing a temperature(RH1) sensed by a home bar temperature sensor and a temperature(R1) sensed by a refrigerating sensor immediately before opening the door if opened, operating in the normal mode if not closed, while determining a first accumulation time lapsed after initializing an accumulation time to '0' if closed, accumulating the first time and determining again whether the first time lapsed if not lapsed in the previous step, reading temperatures(RH2,R2) sensed by the home bar temperature sensor and the refrigerating sensor immediately after closing the door for comparing RH1 and R1 with predetermined values if lapsed, operating in the normal if RH1 and R1 are respectively not more and less than the predetermined values, while controlling a compressor, fan motor and a damper to reach a changed temperature after changing a preset temperature of the refrigerator and determining whether a second accumulation time lapsed if RH1 and R1 are more and less than the predetermined values, operating the normal mode if lapsed, while accumulating the time and determining whether R2 reached RH1, and operating the normal mode if reached, while repeating the sixth step if not reached.
