The device has at least one airbag (6) which can be inflated with gas by a gas generator (7) according to signals from an accident sensor connected to a control device (11). A pre-positioning device associated with the gas generator and/or the airbag is influenced by the control device to move the airbag and/or gas generator from a rest position to a restraining position before or during release of the gas.The airbag and gas generator are combined to form a module unit which is moved by the pre-positioning device. The pre-positioning device is control element, e.g. a piston, activated by a drive device. |
