PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make accessible a relative resource according to data as a key even for an unlinked part in a page by passing data specified by range specifying operation to the retrieving device and displaying the retrieval result as a link which can be selected by a pointing device on a display device. SOLUTION: The range of a document display on the display device 11 is specified first with the cursor of an input device 1 by operating the device. Then, a processor 10 inputs the range-specified character string and passes it as a key word to another network-connected computer as a retrieval destination through a transmitting and receiving device 12. Then, the processor 10 receives the retrieval result from the retrieval destination and displays the retrieval result on the display device 11 as the link which can be selected by the pointing device. Then, when the link as the retrieval result is clicked by the input device 1, the processor 10 obtains the document corresponding to the link from the link destination and displays it on the display device 11.
