PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device sufficiently securing a display time and realizing an excellent picture display while reducing a circuit scale in a color display by a time sequential drive system. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display device provided with a liquid crystal display panel 10 having plural liquid crystal pixels arranged in matrix and a backlight 40 illuminating the liquid crystal display panel 10 from the back side, respective pixel areas constituting the liquid crystal pixels are provided with data hold means temporarily holding the display data driving the liquid crystal pixels, and this device is constituted so as to emit the backlight synchronized with the timing driving the liquid crystal pixels by the display data held by the data hold means.
