PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an opening gauge for a horizontal handle type closing base to confirm the opening of a door body by visually observing a pointer from the arbitrary position of a whole periphery and read the position of the visually observed pointer by opening display graduations to confirm the opening of a door body. SOLUTION: A horizontal handle type closing base is formed that a horizontal handle 3 is rotatably mounted on a stand 1 through a thrust bearing 2 and a vertical valve stem 5 is provided to be elevated along with rotation in the forward and reverse direction of the horizontal handle 3 and opens and closes a door body 6 mounted on the lower end part thereof. A cylindrical valve stem cover 7 formed of a transparent material, such as rigid transparent glass or rigid transparent synthetic resin, is mounted on the upper end part of the horizontal handle 3 rotatably simultaneously with the horizontal handle 3. A pointer 12 mounted in the valve stem 5 is visually observed through the cylindrical valve stem cover 7 from the arbitrary position of a whole periphery and the position of the visually observed pointer 12 is read on opening display graduations 11 formed on the cylindrical valve stem cover 7 to confirm the opening of the door body 6.
