PURPOSE: A method of designating an external call path in a satellite communication system is provided to occupy a trunk by selectively designating a random base station among a number of base stations combined with a public switched telephone network when trying to make an outgoing call to PSTN. CONSTITUTION: In the satellite communication system which provides a communication service by connecting a number of base stations combined with a number of subscribers and PSTN through a satellite, and has a base station information storage means for storing the information of base station combined with the corresponding area switch with respect to the trunk code to divide a number of area switches forming the PSTN, the method includes the following steps: if a certain call request signal is received from a random base station, it is determined if the corresponding call is an internal call or an external call by checking the trunk code of the subscriber's number received; If the call is determined to be an internal call, a series of internal call processing operation is performed; If the call is an external call, on the basis of the trunk code received, the base station information stored in the base station information storage means is detected; A trunk occupying request signal is output to the base station detected and a call connection is performed with the incoming subscriber through the base station detected.
