PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pointing device which obtains two kinds of operation data and also realize miniaturization. SOLUTION: In a track ball (pointing device) 2 provided with a ball 11 for a cursor operation and a ball rotation sensor (ball rotation detecting part) detecting the number of rotations of the ball 11, the ball 11 can be operated from both surface and rear face sides, and upper operation discrimination sensors (operation direction detecting means) 13 and lower operation discrimination sensors (operation direction detecting means) 14 which detect that the ball 11 is operated from either the surface or rear side are provided.
