PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication equipment which can shorten the time for retrieving a non-volatile storage device while a highly functional incoming response is maintained. SOLUTION: This telephone set 1 is provided with a calling source telephone number discrimination means 5 for receiving calling source information of an opposite party through a telephone line 20, a telephone directory storage area 14A in an EEPROM 14 for previously storing management information containing calling source information and a CPU 12 for retrieving information stored in the telephone book area 14A based on received calling source information. In the telephone set 1, a retrieval data table 33 is provided in a retrieval information storage area 15B in a RAM 15 for transferring a part of management information in a telephone directory data table 31, which is stored in the telephone directory storage area 14A. A CPU 12 retrieves a part of management information transferred to the retrieval data table 33 in the retrieval information storage area 15B.
