PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator suitable for forming an electrode element of a highly reliable polymer battery, and the polymer battery. SOLUTION: This separator for a battery 1 is inserted between a sheet positive electrode 2 and a sheet negative electrode 3 and carries electrolyte. The separator 1 contains a polymer, a plasticizer and an insulating filler, and the insulating filler in 1 g of the separator 1 has a surface area of 20-30 m2. It is desirable that a quantity of the insulating filer in the separator is 0.8-4.0 times as large as 1.0 of the polymer in terms of a volume ratio, and/or porosity of the separator is 25-50 volume %. Also, the polymer battery uses this separator to form an electrode element.
