A timber connecting method in which a tenon (16) of a second timber (15) is fitted into a mortice (14) of a first timber (13) and a tenon fixing device used for the method, the tenon fixing device (10) comprising a fixing cylindrical body (11) having, at its center part, a thick wall part (20) smaller in thickness than the tenon (16) and capable of projecting in radial outward direction and an outer notch (21) formed on the outside half opposed to the thick wall part (20) and longer than the thickness of the tenon (16) and a pin (12), wherein, when the tenon fixing device (10) is used, with the tenon (16) installed in the mortice (14), first and second through holes (17 to 19) passing the first timber (13) and tenon (16) therethrough are formed, the fixing cylindrical body (11) is installed in the through holes (17 to 19), the pin (12) is installed into the fixing cylindrical body (11), the thick wall part (20) is projected in the tenon fitting direction so as to pull the second timber (15) to the first timber (13) for securely fixing the first and second timbers (13) and (15) to each other.
