PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To flatten the marking surface of a long material to clarify marking when the long material for marking is soft and uneven or curved, and to prevent imparting deformation such as bending and the like to the long material without applying a flattening function when the long material is hard and flat at its making surface. SOLUTION: When a long material 1 formed out of a long tube is soft, flexible and uneven at its marking surface, the long tube is made flat by passing it through a thermal head 32A while being held between a press roller 46 and a platen roller 30. Meanwhile, when the long material 1 is a hard long tape 1B' having a flat marking surface, a handle 64 is rocked clockwise around a center axis 50 against a spring 48 to separate the press roller 46 from the platen roller 30. Therefore, the hard tape 1B' is prevented from being imparted with bending with no flattening function applied, causing no interruption by bending of the running of the material so that the subsequent processing can be surely carried out.
