PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform regrinding of a drill with capability of automatically locating the surface to be ground of the drill relative to the grinding surface of grinding wheel. SOLUTION: A drill 1 is clamped by a drill chuck 12 in such a way that the drill tip is positioned the same at all times, and the drill tip 2 is irradiated with a ring- shaped light source 31, and the light chiefly including the reflected light from a pair of cutting edge surfaces 7 is made incident to an enlarging lens barrel 32 so that an enlarged projective image of the two cutting edge surfaces 7 is formed in a CCD camera 33, and an image processing system 34 acknowledges this projective image as a point-symmetrical figure 25, calculates the divisional main axis 35, determines the angle difference 30 from the reference axis 36 registered previously, and converts the obtained angle difference into signal number and feeds it to a control system 40, and thereupon a motor A37 coupled with the drill chuck 12 is rotated to put the divisional main axis 35 in identical position to the reference axis 36 so that setting of the drill direction is completed, and it is structured so that the drill 1 revolves for the angle according to the setting in the direction perpendicular to the reference axis 36, and thereby the cutting edge surfaces 7 of the drill 1 are set automatically in the positions to be ground. |
