PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for displaying a program category are provided to quickly recognize the program category visually. CONSTITUTION: A method for displaying a program category includes three steps. A first step is to parse a data of an inputted transport stream type and extract a service information. The second is to detect a program category being broadcasted at present from the extracted service information according to user's request. The third step is to display a beat map corresponding to the detected program category on screen. A apparatus for displaying a program category includes a first storing part in which a beat map is previously stored by a program category, a parser(21) which parses a data of the transport stream type and extracts the service information. and a second storing part in which each service information included in the extracted service information is stored with a database type. Also, a category detecting part(23) detecting an information presenting a program category, a control part(24) controlling a display of the beat map, and a displaying part(26) which displays the beat map so as to recognize a program category being broadcasted at present are provided. |
