PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To replace an ink cartridge surely even when a plurality of ink cartridges are present by controlling the position of a carriage such that only the ink cartridge corresponds to an opening when an ink end detecting means detects the ink end of one ink cartridge. SOLUTION: When an ink end flag from an ink end detecting means 68 is set and a cover open flag from a cover open detecting means 69 is also set, a carriage drive means 70 delivers a command signal to a control system including a carriage motor and controls a carriage to move toward a replacement opening made in the housing. When the cartridge is replaced, a counter in the ink end detecting means 68 is reset based on a signal from a cartridge detecting means 67 and the quantity of ink being ejected from the cartridge is up counted based on a data corresponding to the quantity of ink being supplied from a print control means 60. |
