PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reception signal series estimation method where its arithmetic quantity does not become huge and its transmission characteristic can be maintained and to provide an adaptive receiver adopting this method. SOLUTION: A received base band signal group converted into a base band from L-sets of antennas through terminals 30-1-30-L is given to M-sets of pre- stage filters 72-74. The pre-stage filters 72-74 applies linear synthesis to the received base band signal group by using M-sets of weighting coefficient groups from a parameter estimate circuit 71 to generate M-sets of linearly synthesized signals. Delay circuits 75, 76 delay the M-sets of linearly synthesized signals by different delay times. An adder 78 sums the outputs of the delay circuits 75, 76 and the output of the pre-stage filter 74 to output a synthesized signal, and a maximum likelihood series estimation circuit 42 discriminates a signal from the synthesized signal output to output the discrimination signal of a desired wave.
