PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain the width of a chute from being excessively increased, by restraining affections caused by a weight of a load and a friction coefficient between the load and a carrier belt as far as possible so as to allow the discharging locus of a load onto a chute to be substantially constant. SOLUTION: This article sorting device is located on a side where there is provided a sorting chute 103 for delivering loads 102 transferred from a supply conveyer 107 onto a carrier belt 131 of a carrier 104. The carrier belt 131 is moved up to the discharge side end of the carrier belt 131 in accordance with data concerning the lengths of the loads 102. Since the loads 102 have been previously arranged on the chute side, thereby it is possible to restrain the width of the chute from being excessively increased.
