PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a caterpillar from moving in the width direction when an external force in the horizontal transverse direction applies, by using an angle tilting engagement surface in the width direction of the caterpillar as a contact surface between the upper surface of a machine body and the inside surface of the caterpillar. SOLUTION: A semi-circular guide plate for interconnecting bottoms of upper and lower grooves 5, 5' is mounted to both longitudinal sides of a machine body 3, a running surface of a caterpillar 4 is formed from the guide plate and the grooves 5, 5', and the caterpillar 4 is wound around the outside of this running surface. A tilting engagement surface 9 is formed on a contact surface between the inside surface of the caterpillar 4 and the bottom of the groove 5 of the machine body 3. The tilting engagement surface 9 is constituted with a projection 9a with an angle cross section which projects upward in its central part in the width direction on the bottom of the groove 5 and tilts downward from the projecting portion toward both ends in the width direction, and a recessed part 9b corresponding to the projection 9a formed on the inside surface of the caterpillar 4. Thus, the caterpillar 4 is restrained in a movement in the width direction, and is held in the central part of the groove 5.
