PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove hardly cleanable dirt penetrating the narrow gaps of a medical instrument, such as dirt in the box lock section of a forceps, etc., by conducting a step of immersing a medical instrument in a cleaning solution containing protease as the precleaning step. SOLUTION: This method comprises the precleaning step for facilitating the separation of dirt attached to a medical instrument, the cleaning step for cleaning the surface of the instrument by water jetting, the rinsing step for sterilizing by hot water pouring, and the drying step for drying by hot air blowing. In the precleaning step, an intermediate rotating arm 9B, together with a lower supporting plate, is tilted around a hinge as the center and a lower basket 6 containing forcips, scissors, etc., is set in a tank; a cleaning solution containing protease is filled into the tank to about the half Sb; and the forcisp, scissors, etc., in the basket 6 are immersed in the solution.
