<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control quantity of soot and NOx generated for the entire operating range. SOLUTION: A row of a plurality of nozzle openings is formed so that the openings are positioned leaving space from each other around the axis of the end portion on the peripheral surface of the end portion of a fuel injection valve. An operating range of an engine is divided into a first operating range F with a lower load side and a second operating range G with a higher load side. When the operating status of the engine is in the first operating range F, a fuel injection I is performed only once before a crank angle reaches 50 degrees forward the compression top dead center. When the operating status of the engine is in the second operating range G, a first fuel injection I1, whose injection quantity is 30% or less of the maximum, is performed in an injection timing area II and the second fuel injection I2 is performed almost at the compression top dead center.</p> |
