PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a crimped monofilament yarn useful for artificial turf, etc., in high efficiency and speed by quenching and solidifying an extruded thermoplastic synthetic resin in water and making a yarn under a specific condition. SOLUTION: An undrawn monofilament yarn 11 obtained by the quenching and solidification of a thermoplastic synthetic resin extruded by an extrusion molding means 30 is successively and continuously subjected to a water-removing treatment with a water-removing means 70, a heating and drawing treatment with a heating and drawing means 90 and a crimping treatment with a crimping means 110 to obtain a crimped monofilament yarn having a thickness of 150-500 de. The drafting ratio is selected to 4-15, the crimping speed is >=200 m/min, the quenching and solidifying treatment is carried out by a cooling means 50 provided with one or more direction changing members 52 to change the take-up direction of the undrawn monofilament yarn 11, the contact angle between the direction changing member 52 and the undrawn monofilament yarn 11 is selected between 90 deg. and 150 deg. and the sliding friction resistance between the direction changing member 52 and the undrawn monofilament yarn 11 is decreased compared with the case of the contact angle of 75 deg..
