PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a clearance fluctuation occurring during trimming by providing a shaft movement constraining device which pulls or pushes the rotary shaft of a cutter in the axial direction to constrain the axial movement and a shaft movement constraining force adjusting device. SOLUTION: This trimming device is provided with a shaft movement constraining device 13 which pulls or pushes the rotary shaft 11 of a cutter 5 in the axial direction on the outside of a bearing box 2 and at the rear end of a screw shaft to constrain the axial movement and a shaft movement constraining force adjusting device which adjusts the pulling force or pushing force of the shaft movement constraining device 13. The fluctuation of clearance during cutting caused by the backlash between the worm 7 and worm wheel 9 of the trimming device or the backlash of 3 trapezoidal screw can be prevented, and the operation of a lock mechanism for changing the thickness of a steel sheet to be cut is not required.
