PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the slide of a glass product and its releasability without swabbing by applying a releasing coating consisting of a selected metal carbide and a metal binder to a mold for forming glass. SOLUTION: A coating containing a metal carbide selected among chromium carbide, tungsten carbide, hafnium carbide, niobium carbide and a heat-resistant metal carbide is applied to an inner surface of a mold for forming glass. Metal carbide is combined for use with a metal binder selected among nickel, cobalt, iron, chromium and their alloys. It is preferable to use chromium carbide using the metal binder having a composition consisting of, by weight, 60-90% chromium carbide and 10-40% nickel chromium. It is particularly preferable to use chromium carbide using a metal binder having the composition consisting of, by weight, 80(92Cr-8C)+20(80Ni-20Cr). An arbitrary thermal spraying technology is applicable to a coating substance.
