In detergent compositions suitable for cleaning fabrics or hard surfaces, containing a cationic disinfectant compound, the antimicrobial activity of the cationic disinfectant compound is maintained in the presence of anionic surfactant if an anionic polymer is also present. Preferred polymers are anionic cellulosic polymers such as sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, or acrylic/maleic copolymers. Preferred cationic disinfectants are quaternary ammonium compounds such as benzalkonium chloride. |
