PURPOSE: Provided are polysilanes which show a good hole transporting characteristic when used for electro photographic photoreceptors, organic electroluminescent devices or the like. CONSTITUTION: A polysilane which has a structure represented by the formula (1) wherein R is n-alkyl group having 3 to 20 carbon atoms, R groups is the same or at least two of them may be different from each other, R1 is hydrogen atom and alkyl group, R1 may be the same or at least two of them may be different from each other, and n is in the range of 10 to 20000. The polysilane of the formula (1) can be prepared from a method wherein a dichlorosilane is subjected to reductive polymerization using a specific metal in the presence of a specific Li salt and a metal halide.
