PURPOSE: A method for controlling CCD(Charge Coupled Device) for video cameras is provided to block color signal when the mean value of a brightness signal is lower than a predetermined level in order to increase image quality. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling CCD(Charge Coupled Device) for video cameras includes first thru sixth steps. At the first step, a record mode is selected. At the second step, white(W), yellow(YL), green(G), and cyan(Cy) signals from an object are detected by a color filter. At the third step, a brightness(Y) and a chroma color signal(Cr,Cb) are extracted from the white(W), yellow(YL), green(G), and cyan(Cy) signals. At the forth step, the mean value of the brightness signal is compared with a reference voltage. At the fifth step, a comparison signal with a high voltage level is generated when the mean value is greater than the reference voltage. At the sixth step, the image signal from the object is displayed.
