The invention relates to the use of aqueous polyvinyl acetate dispersions which, as biodegradable softeners, contain triester of glycerin having low aliphatic monocarboxylic acids, citric acid triester having low aliphatic monofunctional alcohols and/or epoxidized triglycerides of fatty acids that are olefinically unsaturated in an at least proportional manner. The inventive dispersions are used for suppressing the growth of unwanted plants.
