PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly perform an EGR operation even if the engine temperature is low and improve the fuel consumption and exhaust gas by executing the EGR operation at an engine temperature higher than a first prescribed temperature in a full cylinder operation, and at an engine temperature higher than a second prescribed temperature in a cylinder halting operation. SOLUTION: In a cylinder-halted engine 3 capable of switching the operating state between a full cylinder operation for operating all cylinders 3a and a cylinder halting operation for halting the operation of a part of the cylinders 3a, wherein the exhaust gas is recirculated to the intake side through an EGR pipe 13, this engine 3 is provided with an ECU 2 for comparing the engine temperature detected by a water temperature sensor 45 with an upper limit and a lower limit. In the ECU 2, it is judged in which state of the full cylinder operation and the cylinder halting operation the cylinder-halted engine 3 is operated. When the judgment result is the full cylinder operation, the EGR operation is executed at an engine temperature higher than the upper limit value, and in case of the cylinder halting operation, the EGR operation is executed at an engine temperature higher than the lower limit value. |
