Filling of the first hollow element (3) driven into the soil (1) is carried out by lowering a second hollow element (4) into it, the second element having previously been filled with filler material, or alternatively a hardenable filler material (5) is added to the second element once it has been lowered into position. The first element has a square or rectangular cross-section. A method for preparing supports (2) in the soil comprises driving a hollow element with a closed bottom end into the soil at constant pressure, then filling the element and the removing the element from the soil to leave the filler material behind. Filling is carried out by lowering a second hollow element into the first one, the second element having previously been filled with filler material, or alternatively a hardenable filler material is added to the second element once it has been lowered into position. The first element has a square or rectangular cross-section.
