Buffer- (1) and second- (2) chambers are separated by a curvilinear interface, which is initially concave, then convex. The filter (5) passes over its surface. Filtration takes place on the convex section. Preferred Features: The convex radius of curvature exceeds the concave radius of curvature. In running through, the filter is joined by e.g. a cloth permeable support (4) carried around a closed loop. The filter and support are tensioned at the interface by the rotary drum (11) coaxial with the center of curvature of the concave section. A conveyor belt (7) moves the support along, over the convex section. Vacuum is applied. Two further belt loops exerting pressure (9) seal the filter at its sides, against the vacuum zone. They are synchronized with the conveyor speed, and carried on two pulleys (10) at the top of the equipment. The pressure of the belts on the filter is adjusted by a system resembling inflatable inner tubes located in the grooves of two side pulley wheels, which are mounted coaxially on either side of the drum. Two spaced, parallel pressure beads are let into the surface of the drum, projecting slightly all around it, to assure that the filter is held closely against the concave surface.
