PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent defective heating at the end part of large-sized paper after passing small-sized paper and the twisting of film, to enhance throughput and to heat to the most end part of the large-sized paper to be at specified temperature after passing the small-sized paper regardless of a use environment at an image heating device having a heating body and the film whose one face slides with the heating body and whose other face is brought into contact and is moved together with a recording material carrying an image and heating the image on the recording material by heat from the heating body through the film. SOLUTION: The heating body 11 possesses a heating element 11b1 for the large-sized recording material heating the recording material having a maximum paper passing width A and the heating element for the small-sized recording material heating the recording material whose width is narrower than that of the recording material having the maximum paper passing width, and the heating element for the small-sized recording material possesses the heating elements 11b3 and 11b3 of paper non-passing parts having a heat generation distribution by which heat generation per unit length is smaller than that of the heating element 11b2 of a paper passing part B and the temperature distribution of the heating body in a longitudinal direction at the time of passing the small-sized recording material is made nearly uniform at the paper non-passing parts C and C of the small-sized recording material.
