PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption, and to easily confirm an image. SOLUTION: When reproducing an image in a liquid crystal cell (52, 54), an auxiliary lamp is turned on. Thus, the displayed image can be easily confirmed. When an image frame carrying switch is not turned on since the auxiliary lamp is turned on (60, Y), the auxiliary lamp is turned off (62). Thus, it is possible to prevent the auxiliary lamp from being unnecessarily turned on, and to reduce power consumption.
