The invention concerns optical devices using thin optical films to adapt the characteristics of a light radiation. The inventive optical device comprises an optical structure (14), and thin optical films (17, 18, 19) interposed on the path of a light radiation (16) propagated in the direction of optical structure (14). The invention is characterised in that the optical films (17, 18, 19) are placed in a closed space (23) with dimensions (L3, L4) greater than the dimensions of the optical films such that the latter are maintained by float mounting which enables each one to be independent in its movement. Said arrangement eliminates mechanical stresses produced by differential thermal expansion. The invention is particularly applicable to liquid crystal display screens.
