摘要 A compensation for wheel wear of a railway truck (10) to maintain a constant car floor height above a railroad track is provided by using shims (42). The shims (42), when are not in use, are attached to a suitable location on the railway truck. A method of compensation for wheel wear comprises generally t he steps of providing a wheel wear compensating shim (42) that, when not being used, is removably attached to the underside (44) of the bearing housing (34 ) or another suitable location of the railway truck (10), lifting of the side frame (22) of the railway truck (10) away from the primary suspension (32), disposing the compensating shim (42) between the side frame (22) and the primary suspension (32), and finally lowering the side frame (22) back onto the shim (42) and primary suspension (32). The railway truck (10) can thus b e shimmed for wheel wear at any location where the side frame (22) and accompa ny car body can be lifted without the need to take the railcar to a retrofit service shop.
